May was all about the power of consistency: building positive habits that enable ‘good’ to become ‘exceptional’.
Here’s our round-up of what made May count.
From carefully checking in a supplier delivery to achieving a flawless plaster finish, daily discipline ensures high quality and creates an effective working environment. Our safety challenge of the month also focused on the small, everyday actions that make a big difference: moving a cable off the floor, tucking in a backpack and keeping walkways clear. Spotting and fixing hazards keeps everyone safe and sets a benchmark from which we can improve. That’s why consistency is key to refined construction.
Spotlight on Sites
Precise planning and great teamwork kept our projects moving forward in May. Let’s take a closer look at some of our sites…
In Maida Vale, with underpinning works now complete, the team powered ahead with mass excavation, shifting an impressive 120 tonnes of soil in just one week (about the weight of a blue whale)! At the same time, technical meetings with our project partners have helped drive forward the floor levelling strategy for the upper ground floor and floor strengthening works above.
Meanwhile in Holland Park, close coordination across trades and a strong team spirit fuelled solid progress. May marked a key milestone with screeding completed over the wet underfloor heating on both the second and third floors. In the basement, partition construction is underway, and works have begun on the main staircase area.
Wellbeing That’s Built In
In the context of Mental Health Awareness Week, consistency means making time for real conversations. Alongside our Mental Health First Aider Tim Reeves, we’re continuing to expand our mental health awareness skills across the team – so that more colleagues are trained to listen, support and create a culture where wellbeing comes first.
Going the Distance
At ACT, we’ve always championed the link between physical activity and positive mental health. To mark National Walking Month, our ACT Walking Challenge got people stepping up and staying active. Meanwhile, Senior Estimator Tom Parsons took on an incredible 24-mile trek across London for Construction Sport, supporting mental health in the construction industry. May’s activities were proof that commitment and consistency eventually lead to achieving big goals.
And it didn’t stop there – our fabulous Charlie’s Angels team powered through the Pretty Muddy 5K, raising nearly £700 for Cancer Research UK, while ACT runners took on an international challenge with the Stockholm Marathon. We couldn’t be prouder of everyone who got involved and raised money for important causes.
Looking Ahead to June
Looking ahead, June is packed with more sporting fun, We’re gearing up for two exciting team events: our annual Golf Day and a friendly cricket match. And if that wasn’t enough, Director Alister will be running 21 half marathons in 21 days, finishing at 21 different times – all in support of mental health charity Mind.
Stay tuned for the June round-up – it’s already shaping up to be one to remember!
